About WhoBoughtWho

WhoBoughtWho is a free reference for how businesses actually change hands. It combines a directory of marketplaces, brokers, private equity firms, search funds, newsletters, tools, and communities for buying and selling businesses with a public record of real company acquisitions: who acquired whom, when, and for how much.

Who it is for

It is built for early- and mid-career professionals getting into M&A, private equity, and search funds, not only people already deep in the industry. Browsing the directory and the acquisition history is free, with no paywall or subscription.

Where the data comes from

  • Directory listings are researched and verified against each company's own website. Listings are reviewed for relevance to business acquisition (buying, selling, or facilitating the sale of a business).
  • Acquisition history is sourced from public records, primarily Wikipedia's maintained acquisition-history pages, with a link back to the original source on every entry.
  • Academics is a curated library of real research papers and business-school case studies, each linked to its original source.

The community

The WhoBoughtWho community is the companion to this directory: searchers, investors, lenders and brokers postbusinesses for sale, jobs and internships, capital offerings and questions, and there are plain-Englishguides on search funds, SBA loans and deal terms. It uses the same WhoBoughtWho account as this site, so one sign-in covers both.

Independence

WhoBoughtWho is independently maintained. No sponsored placements are shown above organic ones unless they are explicitly marked. Organizations interested in sponsoring can read the sponsorship page.
